Balboa Park is absolutely enchanting in San Diego. It’s also a smashingly beautiful location for a wedding. We played jazz classics by request on the big stage of the grand ballroom.
It was a rare Hollywood Rhythm Kings performance that was open to the general public. Most of our shows are for private events. We were delighted to play a night of jazz at Birds & Bees in downtown Los Angeles. It’s a lovely watering hole meticulously styled in 1950’s decor.

On May 29, 2016 we had the honor of playing a beautiful wedding. We played a wide variety of songs including non jazz such as YMCA and Bon Jovi’s Living On A Prayer.
We had a grand time performing jazz for hundreds of guests at a private event at the Gene Autry Museum Of Western Heritage. Bill Keis on joined us on keys. And Lisa Vachon was our wonderful guest vocalist.

We added strings when we played a wedding at the beautiful Pasadena Museum Of History. Martin put together custom arrangements of “Beethoven’s 5 Secrets” and “Turning Pages” for the processional and recessional. It was a picture perfect day. We also made sure the officiant was properly mic’d and heard clearly.
The racetrack was beautiful as we played a private event at Santa Anita Park on April 9, 2016. We played out in the open by the windows where countless folks have placed their bets on the ponies. Guest vocalist Lisa Vachon helped us bring songs of the 20s & 30s to life.
HRK enjoyed a little getaway to perform for a convention of anesthesiologists at the Westin Hotel in Palm Springs. One could say it was a “gas”. Ouch, yes that joke’s a groaner, but one they’ve heard many times before, so they didn’t seem to mind. They got to dancing and really responded to swing classics. The pic below doesn’t capture how beautifully the ballroom was decorated.
We ended up performing special requests and being asked to play an additional set. Then after turning off our amps one additional special request came in for a gentlemen who felt guilty for not dancing with his wife; we plugged back in and played What A Wonderful World just for them.
